The controversial Gift Card makes its second appearance in my trade history.
I saw somebody looking for champagne:
I suggested the Moët mini-bottles that I'd received back in Trade 36 (which coincidentally also featured a gift card):
I don't have a television, so I correspondingly didn't need a Rogers box. After some discussion we settled on a $23 gift card to Metro (effectively a 2:1 discount on the champagne):
Philosophically, gift cards wander precariously close to cash. Consequently, many Bunz object to trading them in the Zone.
My rationalization was that a gift card to Metro is like trading me food, a necessity. I'm going to eat it--my stomach will be the beneficiary. It's effectively the same as trading me a lot of bananas. So I'm fine with gift cards that are food-related.
The other aspect is, if that's what the other Bun is offering, because that's what's convenient for them, I'm ok with it, for the purpose of enabling a trade. It's asking for and only accepting gift cards, which is a problem. [On the flip side, I do not buy gift cards to do trades; I only trade physical items I already own]
In the case of this trade, getting me a gift card was the simplest thing for the other Bun so I had no objections (plus she got a nice deal out of it).
What do you think?
As a side comment, this trade essentially marks a continuation of that typewriter loan in Trade 36.
