Unfortunately the event was a failure; only four other people showed up (plus the bartender who was working there). Just goes to show you, never believe the guest list on Facebook.
Anyway when I arrived everyone looked sad because who wouldn’t? It was a damp rainy night and we had all wasted our time.
So I did a few trades to cheer things up and at least let the other people feel like they came out on the winning end of something. I had brought a backpack full of books.
First I traded the bartender a copy of Absurdistan for a token.
Then I traded these two women a Virginia Woolf novel and some memoir I never even read:
In return I got a scratched crystal bunny paperweight—I am a sucker for useless cute things—and a necklace/bracelet combo that perhaps I might be able to trade in the future (yeah, right).
In truth this trade wasn’t worth making, because I certainly don’t need this junk... but it felt better than not doing one at all and everyone leaving empty handed. I don’t intend to ever read Mrs. Dalloway again, so if someone gets satisfaction out of having it (and besting me in the process), that’s a win.
The bunny now resides on a shelf in my apartment; I have arbitrarily decided to sentimentalize it as a karmic charm for my Bunz adventures, in the same way you might hold on to a lucky rock or figurine.

I subsequently tried to trade the necklace with a luridly written post about how it was a magical amulet forged in the tears of the volcano-goddess Pele, but nobody was interested.
